Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City − #GivingTuesday is a global giving movement where millions of people come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. It is a day to stop shopping and give back. #GivingTuesday also kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
While most of the giving that is done on #GivingTuesday is monetary, people can also give back through simple acts of kindness, volunteering, or donating items. Every act, every donation counts. Every person has something to give.
#GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of people to transform how we think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.
In the spirit of giving together and because YP Impact’s focus is on homelessness this quarter, we are running an extended #GivingTuesday campaign from Tuesday, November 27th through Friday December 7th, to raise money for United Way’s Streets to Home program. United Way supports many nonprofits and organizations like Samaritan (we volunteered with them in November), which assist the homeless. We have a collective goal of $1,000, so we can move at least one person off the streets and into the warmth of shelter.
Please help us achieve our goal. Your gift, in any amount will make a difference and help us achieve our goal.
All donations are tax deductible. If you are part of Emerging Leaders 365, your donation counts toward your goal.
