Can We Talk? Intersectionality: Presented by Port of Seattle

December 4, 2019 @ 7:30 am - 9:30 am

$35 – $45

Intersectionality: what does it mean, and why is it important? The term was coined thirty years ago as a framework for conceptualizing what happens when multiple forms of discrimination (such as sex, gender, culture, race and class) overlap and create multiple levels of social injustice. For example, how is the experience of a black woman different than that of a black man or a white woman?

Intersectionality remains confusing to some, despite steadily growing awareness of it. Join us for a robust discussion around intersectionality, and why understanding this concept is so critical in helping us to achieve true social equity.
